Yes. At Varsity 1827, you can order just one custom embroidered item.
There is no minimum order quantity for our embroidery service. Whether you need a single embroidered polo shirt, sweatshirt, hoodie, jacket or cap, we're happy to help.
Of course, we also produce larger orders for businesses, sports teams, clubs, societies and organisations — but you don't need to order 10, 20 or 50 garments simply to use our embroidery service.
One item really does mean one item.
Why do some embroidery companies have minimum orders?
Commercial embroidery is traditionally associated with larger production runs.
Before a logo can be embroidered, the artwork needs to be prepared for the embroidery machine. The garment then needs to be set up, framed and positioned correctly before production can begin.
For large orders, that preparation is spread across many garments. For a single item, much of the same preparation is still required to produce just one.
As a result, some embroidery businesses set minimum order quantities to make production more economical.
We've chosen to take a different approach.
At Varsity 1827, we work with everyone from individuals wanting a single personalised garment to organisations requiring hundreds of items.
What can I have embroidered as a one-off?
Lots of different garments and accessories can be embroidered individually.
Popular options include:

Can I have my company logo embroidered on just one item?
Absolutely.
You might be self-employed and want a single embroidered polo or jacket. You might be starting a new business and want to see how your branding looks on clothing before ordering more.
Or perhaps you've recently added a new member to your team and only need one additional garment to match an existing uniform.
There are plenty of perfectly good reasons for ordering just one.
If you subsequently decide you'd like more, we can retain your embroidery artwork so it's straightforward to reproduce the same design again.
Can I have a club or society crest embroidered on one garment?
Yes.
We regularly work with clubs, societies, sports teams and other organisations, and sometimes members simply need an individual item rather than participating in a larger group order.
Provided you have permission to use the relevant logo or crest, we can embroider a single garment in exactly the same way we'd approach a larger order.
Can I personalise just one item with a name or initials?
Yes.
Individual names, initials and numbers are particularly well suited to one-off personalisation.
You might want initials added to a quarter-zip, a name embroidered onto a jacket or individual details added alongside an existing club or company logo.
Personalisation can also be combined with a larger order, allowing every garment to carry the same main logo while individual names or initials differ from one item to another.
How much does it cost to embroider one item?
The cost depends primarily on the size and stitch count of your design.
Our embroidery prices for orders of 1–12 items are:

These prices are for the embroidery itself and don't include the cost of the garment or any artwork preparation that may be required.

What is embroidery digitisation?
If you're supplying a logo or crest that we haven't embroidered before, it first needs to be converted into a specialist embroidery file.
This is known as digitisation.
Rather than simply converting one image format into another, digitisation determines how your artwork will actually be constructed in thread — including stitch direction, stitch density, sequence and stitch type.
It's an important part of achieving good-quality embroidery.
Once your design has been digitised, we can retain the file, so if you return for another garment in the future, we can reproduce the same embroidery consistently.
Can you embroider clothing I already own?
Potentially, yes.
If you already have a polo shirt, sweatshirt, jacket or another garment that you'd like embroidered, get in touch and tell us what it is.
Not every garment is suitable for embroidery. Fabric, construction and access to the area being embroidered all need to be considered.
There is also naturally more risk involved when decorating a customer-supplied garment, particularly if it's valuable or irreplaceable.
For that reason, we'd always recommend speaking to us before buying a garment specifically to bring in for embroidery.
Alternatively, we can source the garment for you.
Can you supply the garment as well?
Yes.
You don't need to arrive with your own clothing.
We can source a wide range of garments suitable for embroidery, from straightforward everyday polos and sweatshirts through to premium jackets, quarter-zips, sportswear and workwear.
If you tell us what you're looking for and approximately what you'd like to spend, we can recommend suitable options.
This can often be easier than buying something yourself because we already know which types of garments work particularly well with embroidery.
Is one-off embroidery the same quality as a larger order?
Yes.
Ordering one garment doesn't mean receiving a lesser version of our embroidery service.
The same considerations around artwork, digitisation, thread, positioning and production apply whether we're producing one garment or one hundred.
In fact, one-off orders are sometimes a useful way of seeing a design on a finished garment before subsequently placing a larger order.
What if my design isn't suitable for embroidery?
We'll tell you.
Embroidery is fantastic for logos, lettering, crests and many other designs, but it isn't always the best solution.
Very fine details, gradients, extremely small lettering or large complex graphics can sometimes be better reproduced using print.
Because Varsity 1827 offers both embroidery and DTF printing, we can recommend whichever process is most appropriate for your artwork and garment.

Do I get a discount if I order more?
Yes.
While there's no minimum order, our embroidery prices reduce when you're ordering more than 12 items with the same embroidery.
For example, embroidery containing fewer than 5,000 stitches costs £5 per item for 1–12 garments and £4 per item for larger orders.
So you don't have to order in quantity — but if you do, we can pass on some of the production efficiencies.
